The Problem

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service provides essential support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families across Berkshire and the surrounding communities. To complement its community care work, the charity opened its very own purpose-built children’s hospice building in 2018.

Located just outside Maidenhead and within easy access of the M4, the hospice has state-of-the-art facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, music room, games room, family accommodation and bereavement suite.

While the peaceful rural setting of the hospice is ideal for families, it created a number of challenges with regards to the distance the surface and waste water would need to be pumped to reach the public sewer.

The Solution

The Pump Technology project team reviewed the requirements and the following solutions were proposed.

For the foul, a sewage PumpMatic station was selected utilising dual Jung Pumpen MultiCut 20/2m, 3ph submersible cutter pumps. These are of robust design and ideal for the arduous pumping requirement, which is a total of 14m head.

For the site’s surface water, a PumpMatic station was also installed. This features dual Jung Pumpen US155, 3ph submersible wastewater pumps with a vortex free flow passage of 50mm.

Both pump stations have twin guide rails for easy maintenance of the pumps and have their own control panel and kiosk local to the pump station. The kiosk is fitted with a beacon to indicate any alarms.

The Pump Technology service team inspects the site every six months to ensure trouble-free operation for the hospice.

Pump Technology Ltd is proud to be one of many supporters of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service. As part of this support the company has gifted the sewage pumping station and continues to maintain both stations free of charge.

Warren King, Director at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, praised the solution and support provided by Pump Technology:

“We are hugely grateful to Pump Technology for creating such a reliable and effective solution for our hospice. We are also so appreciative of their generosity and ongoing support, meaning money we raise can be spent directly on supporting the children and families that need us rather than maintenance costs”
